Three generations share the stories and knowledge of their country and culture in an exhibition of new works at Gecko Gallery from September 18th to October 4th
These three generations of artistic talent are represented by the indigenous owned art centre - Waringarri Aboriginal Arts in Kununurra where the importance of passing on knowledge and culture to younger artists is paramount. The legacy of the past is carried forward into the future to keep culture strong.
“Knowledge given is a serious responsibility and passing that on to younger generations is an implicit part of maintaining culture as a vital living presence.” says Cathy Cummins, Arts Manager of Waringarri Aboriginal Arts. “It is wonderful when you see family creating work together and when young people are learning from senior artists. The art centre takes pleasure in encouraging younger artists to participate in exhibitions and learn skills that will develop their talents.”
While united by family, culture and country each artist’s distinct interpretation of place presents an exhibition of rich and colourful diversity.
This exhibition is a collaboration between Gecko Gallery and Waringarri Aboriginal Arts.
